When developing the RS55 compound by SDT Brakes, we knew it couldn’t be just “another one.” It had to be a step forward. We have over two decades of experience in this sector, and if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that the high-performance brake market is saturated with promises... but few products actually perform under real pressure.

That’s why the RS55 is not an adaptation of a regular street pad, nor a simple upgrade. It is a next-generation semi-metallic organic compound, created from scratch to deliver everything we look for in a high-performance and racing brake: strength, control, temperature resistance, and reliability.

Composition of the RS55: Innovation Driven by Racing

The base of the RS55 is a semi-metallic organic formulation with a specific metal load, developed by our technical team here in Europe. We have combined high-friction coefficient materials with binders stable at high temperatures, which allow maintaining performance even during long sessions or under extreme conditions.

It is not a brake pad designed to meet homologation standards — for that, we already have the S50 and S50+ —. This is a pad built for competition, giving us the freedom to prioritize what truly matters on track: initial bite, a high temperature range, and good modulation / controllability.

Advantages in grip, temperature resistance, and wear

What we hear most often when people try it is: "How can it brake like this in cold conditions for such a racing pad?" The truth is, yes, it brakes in cold, and it does so with a predictable and progressive feel. Here are some of the key reasons:
  • Real operating temperature range: 0 °C – 700 °C.
  • Excellent initial grip without being aggressive, perfect for maintaining control even when the car is pushed to the limit.
  • Optimized wear, which doesn’t damage discs like more racing and radical compounds.
  • Low noise levels, or even virtually silent, which is uncommon in this range.

Recommended applications: rally, circuit racing, track days, or racing competitions.

This brakepad is not homologated for street use, and it doesn’t aim to be. The RS55 is designed for:
  • Prepared cars for track days or grip,
  • Circuit racing vehicles, light cars, or rally cars, and even for the rear axle in TCR, GT3, or GT4 vehicles,
  • Buggies in endurance or mountain tests,
  • And even sports touring cars running on semi-slick or slick tires.

Comparison with Conventional Compounds

We know that many people compare our RS55 with other compounds on the market, such as Ferodo DS2500.

We won’t get into direct commercial comparisons, but we can tell you this:

1. The RS55 brakes sooner.

2. Has a better coefficient in cold conditions.

3. Lasts longer.

4. And modulates better.

All of this has been tested on dynamometers and in real track conditions, and it has also been confirmed by teams and customers who have been using it since the beginning of the year.

In summary:

If you’re looking for a true high-performance racing brake pad — not a patch or a street copy — RS55 is one of our best offerings to date. And we don’t say that lightly: we manufacture it ourselves, test it ourselves, and know what it’s capable of.
